The Northern CA Fires

Hi Everyone,

Many of you may have gotten news of the several fire raging through Northern California right now.  The one in Santa Rosa has burnt my Grandparent’s house down.  Thankfully they are fine, but there are some people out there who still need as much support as they can get.  If you know anyone affected by these fires, please direct them to this website, if they are a kid, to share their stories and how they are doing, and to the website martinich.net for the adults.

Please keep everyone in northern California in your prayer right now, and if you can, donate clothes, toys. books, anything to your local Red Cross for these victims.  Remember how special it was to get a toy from somewhere after your house burnt down.  It was something that belonged to you again.

Stay Safe,

Madison

More Fires

Hi everyone,

I know it has been a while since I posted and my life has been really busy so I’m sorry, but now I’m back!

With the Whittier Fire burning near Santa Barbara, the Alamo Fire near Santa Maria, and many others all throughout California right now.  Even if you have only been evacuated, it is still a very scary experience.  You don’t know if you house and stuff is still intact.

I am not sure how many houses have been lost but I severely hope the number is very low, I do not want anyone else to go through what I went through.

If you know anyone, or yourself, who have been affected by the fire, please direct them to my website and encourage them to share their stories.  Everyone’s experience if different and unique, so if we share, then more people could be prepared for all different types of fires.

Your Friend,

Madison

Recent Rain

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying the rain.  It has been very good for our plants and creeks.  Unfortunately, in some places there have been flash foods, floods, and mudslides as the huge storm hits California.

Lets hope that everyone is alright.

Be back soon, Madison

Recent Fires

Hi Everyone,

I was just checking in.  If any of you know anyone who was affected by any of the recent fires, feel free to direct them to this website.

Some recent fires are:

-The Flat Fire, Kern County

-Auburn Fire, Nevada County

-Soberanes Fire, Monterey County

-Canyon Fire, Santa Barbara County

-Willard Fire, Lassen County

And so many more, sadly. These were just some of the ones that have burned or are burning recently in California.

Best Wishes,

Madison :)

Presented!

Hi Everyone!

I just presented my Silver Award Project and am so happy.  I successfully did it and now have my Silver Award!  It was super fun and I really recommend you do it if your a Girl Scout.  It was a super cool life experience and it taught me a lot of things.

You should all help your community!  It is lots of fun and a good life lesson.  Go and help your community!

Breaking News!

The photos show Madison Martinich, an 11-year-old Girl Scout, delivering 300 journals and pens to Barry Bialkoski. Madison and her family’s home in Santa Barbara burned down seven years ago in the Tea Fire. When she heard about the tragic Valley Fire, she was inspired to collect money to buy the journals and pens, which were obtained below cost from her local book store. Writing in her journal helped her a lot to adjust to her new situation after the fire, and she thought that others affected by the Valley Fire could be helped, too. This fit in well with Barry’s efforts to help the Lake County fire citizens, so the journals were delivered to Barry for distribution through the affected Lions Clubs.

Madison also has started a blog http://www.disasterkids4kids.com that can be used by fire victims to write their stories. You can read her story there.

My Silver Award Project

Hi Everyone,

Just in case you were wondering, the reason I created this website was A) To help people who had been affected by natural disasters and B) To earn my Girl Scout Silver Award Project.  This is the highest award a Cadette Girl Scout can earn.  I hope some of you Girl Scouts earn this award when you are a Cadette.  It was tons of fun and I am so happy I did it!

Check This Out!

This is a Girl Scout website, but regardless of whether your a Girl Scout or not, it contains good information about disaster preparedness and other cool things – disaster related.  I recommend you check it out.

Raising Money

Here is how I raised money to get this website up and running.

Just so you know, I am wearing the blue jacket and everyone else is helping me, they are my friends.  We are putting labels on journals in 3 of the pictures and making chocolates in 1 picture.  The chocolates sell really well (great money-raising idea).
